{April 18, 2008}   Wired Ad Review

I decided to write a review on a Renaissance Hotel and Resort ad from the March 2008 issue of Wired. I liked this ad because I though it was a creative use of a double truck layout, which the magazine seems to lean towards. I think it was a good choice for the magazine as far as product is concerned because upper end people like upper end products, which Renaissance Hotel and Resorts is known for. I also thought their ad was clever because it is a “modern” reproduction of the Venus de Milo painting. I think the ad has good balance and it draws the reader in with the lines created with the server’s lean to the right and releases the reader from the ad with the flowing robe that floats off to the right. I also found the colors change from light to dark, left to right was nice as well.

{April 17, 2008}   Twitter

As asked, I checked out twitter.com and I have to say I was not a fan. When you first sign up it says the site is based on one questions, “What are you doing?” Honestly, I don’t think that is an interesting enough question to make “following people around” worth my time. I found the sight confusing and seemingly basic in nature. I also found it to be aesthetically unappealing and visually uninteresting. I much prefer MySpace of Facebook to this program. Perhaps if I was a stalker and obsessed with someone or something I would find use for twitter, but as it stands now I don’t have room for it in my “web-life.”
